L\u2019allievo spesso racconta di sentirsi riorganizzato muscolarmente, di percepire un senso di leggerezza nella camminata, di avere maggior coscienza dell\u2019appoggio dei piedi.<\/p>\n<p>Vero \u00e8 che il corpo di chi fa Pilates diventa tonico, armonico e rimodellato nella forma, elegante nei movimenti. La salute cagionevole durante gli anni infantili lo indusse ad applicare l\u2019 esercizio fisico e il bodybuilding. Si appassion\u00f2 allo sport diventando un ottimo atleta di boxe, sci e ginnastica e sviluppando una profonda conoscenza dell\u2019anatomia e della biomeccanica muscolare.<\/p>\n<p>All\u2019et\u00e0 di 30 anni si trasfer\u00ec in Inghilterra dove intraprese la carriera di istruttore di autodifesa per Scotland Yard. Con lo scoppio della Prima Guerra Mondiale J.H.Pilates venne internato nel Lancaster e poi sull\u2019 isola di Man. Durante la prigionia ebbe modo di perfezionare e raffinare i suoi principi sulla salute e sul Body Building. Utilizzando le molle dei letti di ospedale inizi\u00f2 la progettazione e la costruzione di una serie di macchinari per la rieducazione e la riabilitazione dei reduci feriti.<\/p>\n<p>Dopo il rilascio, J.H.Pilates ritorn\u00f2 in Germania ad Amburgo dove lavor\u00f2 per la polizia locale come addestratore fisico delle reclute e dell\u2019intero corpo di polizia. In questo periodo conobbe Rudolph von Laban, ideatore della Labanotation (una delle forme di registrazione scritta di balletto pi\u00f9 rinomate nel mondo), il quale decise di incorporare parte del lavoro di J.H.Pilates nell\u2019impostazione del proprio insegnamento.<\/p>\n<p>Durante la seconda guerra mondiale venne interpellato per seguire personalmente il piano di allenamento del nuovo esercito tedesco. Dopo un breve periodo, lui per\u00f2 decise di emigrare negli Stati Uniti. Durante il viaggio conobbe Clara che pi\u00f9 tardi divenne sua moglie e con lei a New York apr\u00ec il suo studio accanto al new York City Hall. Pubblic\u00f2 due libri \u201cYour health\u201d (1932) e \u201cThe return to life trought contrology\u201d (1945). Insegn\u00f2 il suo metodo per oltre 20 anni fino alla sua morte nel 1967.<\/p>\n<p>Il suo studio di New York venne rilevato dalla sua allieva Romana Kryzanowska, mentre altri tra i suoi discepoli, come ad esempio Ron Fletcher e Kathy Grant, aprirono altri studi, contribuendo a diffondere il metodo nel mondo.<\/p>\n<\/div><div
